In this article, we examine the research “Construction of scenarios of democratization in family relations from Social Work”, carried out between the years 2015 and 2016, summarizing the findings of three investigations that precede this study in seven municipalities of the Department of Caldas. Its purpose was to understand families’ discourse and practices in the care and upbringing of children in early childhood. Analysis was done of data related to the categories of gender, generation, authority and rights within the framework of the democratization of family relations in early childhood. One of the main findings was the continuity and permanence of hegemonic patriarchal discourses, which, in the case of care and upbringing, constitute inequitable gender relations and authoritarianism that lead to the violation of the rights of children in the Department of Caldas.
