This paper aims to present the findings of research on meanings and use of a public space that has gained importance among citizens in in the city of Santiago de Cali during the period 2013- 2014.
The public space as a place where experiences, practices, and meetings with the other and the others are recreated, enables the construction of meanings, symbols and identities that promote civilian coexistence and solidarity among citizens through permanent use. The quality and quantity of public space turns out to be essential for a city, since it allows the construction of civic identity and cultural appropriation of the places that make sense for citizens living there.
