Indigenous democracy: another democracy is possible?

This article is part of a concluded research regarding the autonomy of Colombian indigenous movement in the context of the armed conflict. A theoretical review is presented on the democracy’s concept and an empirical work was conducted with indigenous population about the understanding of the perspective and the practice of these people and their organizations in Colombia. The idea of democracy seen by the indigenous population constitutes their own way to contribute to peace from the acknowledgement, respect, valuation and the assimilation of diversity as condition for the full enjoyment of human rights.
