This article is part of the process of dissemination and strengthening of the research project “Juventud bonaverense: capital social, constitución de sujetos sociales y políticos”, carried out in 2009 and 2010 with 52 (formal and non-formal) dynamics of youth association in the city of Buenaventura, funded through an internal Universidad del Valle call for research projects, for its regional headquarters, in 2009.

It presents some empirical reflections on the concept of citizenship, in connection with two basic reflexive dimensions: social capital, such as links and relationships that allow the construction of social groups; and the notions of social and political subjects, in the form of structural patterns for the social action of Buenaventura´s youth who participate in several social groups in Colombia’s most important port city.
