This article presents a re
flection about monitoring and assessment as an ongoing process that makes part of land use planning. It is based on an investigation about the land use plans of the municipalities under the influence of the metropolitan area of Cali. This investigation demonstrated that these plans became dead letter, as they didn´t contemplate an effective system of monitoring and assessment, which is necessary for the permanent revision and adjustment of the plans POT.
